Works great for

🗄️

Generating unique database record IDs

Produce RFC 4122 v4 UUIDs to use as primary keys in PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or DynamoDB. UUID primary keys eliminate auto-increment collisions when merging data across multiple database shards.

🧪

Creating mock data for unit tests

Generate batches of random UUIDs to populate test fixtures, seed scripts, and factory functions with realistic-looking identifiers. Supports generating up to 100 UUIDs in one click.

🔑

Setting idempotency keys for API requests

Copy a fresh UUID to use as an idempotency key in Stripe, Twilio, or other payment and messaging APIs. Guarantees that duplicate network retries do not result in duplicate charges or messages.

🪟

Generating GUIDs for Windows and .NET projects

Get uppercase, no-dash formatted GUIDs that match the GUID syntax expected by C#, COM interfaces, and Visual Studio project files. Toggle uppercase and remove-dashes options with a single checkbox.

🔐

Creating unique session tokens

Use a v4 UUID as a session identifier, CSRF token, or one-time link token when a cryptographically random, collision-resistant string is needed. Suitable for use in cookies, query params, and headers.

🌐

Generating IDs for distributed systems

Assign stable, globally unique identifiers to events, messages, and resources across microservices and distributed queues. UUIDs avoid ID collisions without requiring a central ID-generation service.

Frequently asked questions

How do I generate multiple UUIDs at once?

Set the quantity field to the number of UUIDs you need and click generate. Each one is a random RFC 4122 compliant UUID v4, and you can copy them individually or copy the entire list in one click.

What is the difference between a UUID and a GUID?

They are effectively the same thing: a 128-bit identifier formatted as 32 hex digits in five groups. GUID is Microsoft's name for the format, while UUID is the general RFC 4122 term used across most other platforms.

Are generated UUIDs guaranteed to be unique?

UUID v4 values are generated from 122 random bits, making collisions astronomically unlikely but not mathematically impossible. For practical purposes, such as database keys or idempotency tokens, they are treated as unique.

Can I use these UUIDs as database primary keys?

Yes, UUID v4 values are commonly used as primary keys because they can be generated independently on multiple systems without coordination, unlike auto-incrementing integers which need a single source of truth.
